Shake It Up

Just like Disney's other slick , market-formulated and dumbed-down productions, this one is just not entertaining and has for one of it's role-models someone who is painfully thin and I suspect may have an eating disorder. My 9 year old is asking me, after watching this horrid show, about her weight. It's a Laugh productions company, the company responsible for this dross(and other dumb Disney sitcoms) should not get away with producing this garbage. We have more power as consumers than we realize. I am boycotting Disney.

Disney is exploiting children by writing scripts that include vulgar and derogatory actions toward children. In an episode of Shake it Up, the mother wants to get information out of the little boy so she makes him and another boy drink water – but will NOT let them go to the bathroom. The little boy ends up wetting his pants. This is NOT funny. In another episode, the older sister is supposed to be in charge of the boy, and ends up giving him milk for breakfast that she spit out. When we allow our children to see this, we are saying that it is OKAY to be abused, neglected and bullied. That is the message Disney is sending with Shake it Up! As an educator, and a mom – I am deeply dissatisfied with Disney in choosing this show to represent a company that is supposed to be “where children’s dreams come true.”
